The idea

Great people help others become great.

“Before you become a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.”
Jack Welch
Former CEO, General Electric

Helping others grow sits at the heart of leading, teaching and parenting. People who grow often take on more, solve more on their own and help others grow in turn. In a full calendar it is also often the first thing to slip, and that is where a clear method makes the difference.

This is a skill, and you can learn it. The Fellow program brings it together in one place: how people learn, how they grow and how you can support them, starting with yourself. You first learn how you learn, then how to help others, so that your questions open up the conversation and spark the other person's own ideas.

What you will be able to do

Bring out the best in the people around you.

Listen for what matters

Hear what the other person truly wants to talk about, and give it the room it needs.

Ask questions that open doors

Help people think things through and discover ideas of their own.

Turn ideas into first steps

Move from a good conversation to a small step with a date, and watch confidence grow.

Choose your approach

Know when to ask, when to share and when to tell, and widen your range as a person who develops others.

Who it is for

For people who help others grow.

Parents

Your teenager says “Fine” and heads to their room. Learn what keeps a conversation going and gives your child room to find their own way.

Teachers

Understand what makes learning stick, and bring simple questions into your classroom that help students own their progress.

Leaders

Your best people want to grow, and your calendar is full. Build a five-minute weekly conversation that develops them and builds their ability to solve problems on their own.

Coaches and mentors

A clear method and simple tools to sharpen your conversations between sessions.

The method

The ACE it! Method: three steps, backed by insights and tools.

ACE it! is the method behind the program, a clear way to help someone move forward. Three steps show you what to do. Insights from research show you why it works. Simple tools help you apply it, often the same day.

Step 1 · Address

Understand what matters

Listen first. The other person names what is on their mind, and you make sure you have understood.

Step 2 · Create

Find ideas together

Their ideas come first. Yours join them as one option among several.

Step 3 · Execute

Agree on a first step

A small step with a date turns an idea into action, and a follow-up keeps it moving.

Insights

Why it works

What research on learning, change and coaching has found, in plain words: how adults learn, what supports change and how to build on it. You meet the insights in Parts 2, 4 and 6.

Tools

How you use it

Simple instruments such as the Best Work Tool, the Arrow of Success and Small Greats. Each one makes the method concrete, and you can often use it the same day.

How it works

Learn by doing, at your own pace.

After each of Parts 2 to 8 you try what you learned in a real conversation with someone you choose, and then you look back at what you noticed.

Learn at your own pace

Every lesson comes as clear text. Start today, pause when life calls and continue where you stopped. Your progress is saved.

Two assessments included

ACE Preferences shows your preferences across the three phases of success: Address, Create and Execute. Most people have one or two, and you can work with them on purpose or step out of them when it counts. That can change the outcome in many situations. The Making Others Great Assessment shows how you like to develop others, on eight axes. Both are included at no extra cost, and you use the results in Parts 3 and 8. Sold separately, they cost USD 60 (ACE Preferences) and USD 39 (Making Others Great Assessment).

A workbook for every part

Reflection prompts, worksheets and templates follow the course part by part. Print the workbook or save it as a PDF, and write your answers by hand.

Check what you know

Short self-tests after each lesson show you where you stand. A final test of 20 questions completes the program: you pass with 14 right, and you can retake it as often as you like.

Practice in real conversations

12 practice cases in Parts 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 let you try out your words in realistic scenes, and Parts 2 to 8 each end with a practice in a real conversation with a person of your choice about a matter that is real for you. That is where the program takes hold.

What you will learn

Nine parts, one path.

You start with yourself, then you learn to help others. Each lesson takes 3 to 8 minutes, and the practice around it is up to you. Open a part to see what is inside.

A free sample from Lesson 7.2

What happens in fifteen seconds of silence.

Maria has been with the company for three years. She is competent, reliable and appreciated. For some months she has seemed stuck. Her manager Thomas invites her to a conversation.

“How are things going for you right now?” he asks. “Fine, actually. All good.” Thomas waits. The silence stretches: ten seconds, fifteen. Then Maria says, “Well, if I'm honest, I'm not sure where all of this is going.”

From Lesson 7.2, “Address: Understand what matters”

Two small habits make the difference. First, receive the first answer warmly and wait, because “All good” is often not the whole picture. Second, ask follow-up questions in the other person's words. Thomas asks, “What do you mean by ‘where this is going’?” One question, then wait.

What Thomas does in those fifteen seconds is a skill. You can learn it, and you can practice it in a safe place until it is yours.

What is the ACE it! Method, and what are its three steps, insights and tools?

The Making Others Great Assessment shows how you like to develop others, on eight axes such as Telling and Asking or Supporting and Challenging. Both poles of every axis have value, and the report helps you widen your range. You take it at the start and read it closely in Lesson 3.2. The optional 360 view, in which at least five people answer the same statements about you, is available separately.

Parts 2 to 8 each end with a practice you try in a real situation, often a conversation with a person of your choice: a friend, a colleague or a family member. You do not need to arrange anyone before you start. When you write about other people in your workbook, use first names or initials.
